A new DLC for WWE 2K24 dropped on October 16 called the Bray Wyatt Edition of the game, and for some people, it’s frustrating because there’s so much else fans of the WWE franchise want to see as well.
To sum this whole piece up, it’s a discussion of the DLC, a comparison as to what WWE2K games have done in the past, and an interview with WWE 2K Gameplay Producer Bryan Williams. Yes, there’s a lot happening here, and I’m smashing it into one piece.
Disclosure time: We're going to have to make a list for this round because there's a lot to unpack with the relationship between WWE 2K Games and myself.
I was originally given codes for WWE 2K24 to write about Showcase Mode on Steam, which I posted to Patreon.
I was given a Steam code for the Bray Wyatt Edition pack.
I have done numerous interviews with WWE 2K Game Producer Bryan Williams in the past and have fun/goofy relationship with him--which is why he appears in a few of my videos.
One of these interviews with Williams is above and took place after a video piece for Patreon about create-a-wrestlers.
I am under zero obligation to write this or post anything I've done with 2K Games.
This whole piece is objective, regardless of whether you think it is or not.
Let's go back to WWE 2K23. There was the Bad Bunny Edition of the game released in October 2023 (Seven months after the original release of 2K23). You could buy the game and the Bad Bunny set as a bundle or standalone DLC for $10. That DLC included a new Bad Bunny wrestler, a Bad Bunny Diamond Tier MyFaction EVO card, a MyFaction logo, nameplate, and background, a LWO Puerto Rico shirt for Superstar Creator, and 15,000 VC.
As for the Bray Wyatt Edition, it's included in the Bray Wyatt Edition of the game or as a standalone DLC that's not part of the Season Pass for $10. It comes with the alternate version of The Fiend, which was shown in the Becoming Immortal documentary but Bray never wrestled in, an Elite Bray Wyatt character, an updated Uncle Howdy, The Fiend championship title, MyFaction cards, and 15,000 VC.
These releases are separate from Season Passes, so for fans, it's a huge letdown. I was honestly let down a bit when I realized it. We're getting additional packs of DLC that aren't included with the Season Passes people have purchased.
The big difference between the Bray Wyatt Edition and the Bad Bunny Edition is that there’s more contemporary content for this DLC. The Wyatt Sicks faction is having a slow rollout on WWE Raw, and it's been fantastic, but it’s not in the game. People want more, and frankly, the Uncle Howdy included in the base game sucks. It looks like Uncle Howdy, but Howdy, up until this summer, hadn't been in a match. His last appearance was during a weird Mountain Dew neon match featuring LA Knight vs. Bray Wyatt. It was a character fans were excited to learn more about, but because of Wyatt's passing, it was understandably put on hold, reshaped, remolded, and reenvisioned by Taylor Rotunda (Bo Dallas) using his brother's characters and world. It's great. It's an homage to Windham Rotunda's creative mind.
We're about to talk about value, and I can already sense your eyes rolling so far into the back of your head because it was given to me for free. But I was going to buy it once payday hit. The Season Pass, aside from one pack, has been very good this year--with one more to come. And I understand that there are lots of people clamoring for more Bray Wyatt content. I'm one of them.
For $10, you're getting three new characters (one is more of a much-needed update), a new title, and some MyFaction stuff. I’m not a huge MyFaction player, so I personally don’t care about it, but I know there are plenty of people that love it, and that’s great. Honestly, that’s not a bad value for what you’re getting compared to last year. I know like I sound like a huge shill right now. And you, the player that has the Season Pass, are probably annoyed with this drop, as you have the right to be. Personally, I don’t think it’s a huge deal, since you’re getting a good amount of content for $10.
Let’s move on to the elephant in the room. Where are the Wyatt Sicks? In the interview above with Williams, we do discuss that. It comes down to various factors. Erick Rowan wasn’t in WWE when the game was in development. There would have to be new characters for every character in the game. New entrances. New movesets. It’s quite a bit to add to WWE 2K24, outside of the previously-announced DLC, when the next game is being worked on. Yes, there are persona rollouts in MyFaction—which I hate because I want them but don’t want to grind that mode—but that’s separate to the point here, which is about being contemporary to what’s happening on TV.
And as we discussed in the interview above, The Wyatt Sicks have had a slow rollout on Raw, and even though we’ve met the members of the team and saw them wrestle a little bit, but they’re still rolling out and fleshing out those characters. In order to pay homage to Wyatt’s legacy in the WWE, something like that shouldn’t be rushed out.
We’ve seen with past WWE games that it is nearly impossible to keep up with what’s happening on TV in the video game. As production on the next game moves forward, storylines change, characters change, production changes. Having each game reflect everything that’s happening can be an almost impossible challenge. Putting the Wyatt Sicks in the game, while working on the next installment, doesn’t seem like a task that team can take on. Getting a little bit of reflection on TV as an addition to a game that was released a half a year prior is better than nothing. It’s actually a lot better than nothing.
So for $10, for people that truly love Bray Wyatt’s legacy, it’s not a bad deal. It’s ultimately your choice to buy it. I love Mortal Kombat, and it’s a bummer when non-Season Pass content comes out, but depending on the content, I can choose to buy it or not buy it.
It’s also everyone’s right to be annoyed by this and what the gaming industry does with situations like this. So, if you are upset about this, be upset. Voice your opinions to WWE 2K. Just try to remember, at the end of the day, it’s a team of people trying to work on the next game and putting in a little more effort on the last one to make people happy, but yes, it’s going to cost a little extra for that content. I’m not going to sit here and say, ”It’s just $10, people!” because money is tight for a lot of of us. But I will say that it’s a nice addition to the game, and yes, I’m not saying this for any other reason than it’s the truth, I was planning on buying this before being given a code.
If you know me and my writing, I’m honest. I’m genuine. Look at that stupid long disclosure at the beginning of this piece. I didn’t have to write any of that shit, but I did because I want to be completely upfront with you, the person reading this.
Thanks for taking the time to read. You’re the best, even if you don’t agree with me… unless you’re a monster.
